Indoor Trainers v Power Meter
We would normally recommend to use an inexpensive trainer at first and spend any money saved on a power meter for your bike. Stages are good value and straightforward to use.
Expensive indoor trainers have power meters built-in. However, having a power meter on your bike, rather than just on your trainer (both are ideal) is a good solution for indoor, outdoor riding and racing.
Some trainers are direct drive, meaning you remove your back wheel to attach your bike to the trainer. They feel more realistic but not cheap.
Please do your research and look at some online group tests before you buy any trainer, simply searching for "which bike trainer" or "which power meter" on the internet will produce a wealth of opinion and advice for all abilities and budgets.
