Exporting Workouts
Workout Builder's structured workouts allow you to export your workouts to your training devices.
- Bike workouts are structured using a percentage of your Functional Threshold Power.
- Run workouts are structured using a percentage of your Threshold Run Pace.
Heart Rate
Currently, there is no straightforward way to change this to Heart Rate.
You must recreate the structured workout in TrainingPeaks based on the description, using heart rate and the relevant heart rate percentages (Training Zones Table).
Effective Training
You can still train effectively by following the workout description and your training zones based on Heart Rate or RPE, although you cannot export the workouts to heart rate-only devices.
Following structured workouts (particularly interval sessions) on your watch based solely on heart rate is challenging. This is because the heart can take several minutes to fully reflect your riding or running intensity.
For instance, your bike's power output might surge from 150 to 300 watts in one second. However, your heart rate would not reflect this doubling unless you sustained 300 watts for at least 30 seconds (probably longer).
Heart rate monitoring works well for steady-state rides or runs. For shorter interval sessions, relying on RPE (or ideally power or pace) is more effective. Then, you can use heart rate as a supplementary measure of intensity.
