What is an Annual Training Plan (ATP)?
TrainingPeaks offers an Annual Training Plan (ATP) feature, which helps you create a structured overview of your training year. It allows you to see at a glance what training phases and weekly hours are coming up, so you can plan accordingly.
How it Works:
- Customizable Overview: While your ATP won’t automatically sync with your training plan, you can manually create and edit it to match your training schedule.
- Periodization: The ATP follows a periodization model similar to Joe Friel’s method, which divides the year into training phases such as Base, Build, and Peak periods. This approach is designed to optimize performance by focusing on different aspects of fitness at specific times during the year.
- Recovery Weeks: Like our training plans, the ATP includes an easier week every third or fourth week to give your body time to recover and adapt to the accumulated stress. You can adjust this frequency according to your needs.
How to Use the ATP:
- Match Phases: Review the periodization structure in your training plan (e.g., Base 1, Build 2, etc.), and then edit your ATP to match the weekly hours and phases.
- Flexible Adjustments: You can edit the ATP as your training progresses to reflect changes in training hours, intensity, or phases as needed.
This tool provides a clear, high-level overview of your training year, making it easier to plan your season and stay on track with your training goals.
