Threshold and Zone Settings
To ensure the most accurate workout data, it’s important to enter your Threshold Values and MyProCoach Training Zones for your preferred measures (pace, power, heart rate) into your TrainingPeaks account settings.
Article: Getting Started with Training Zones
Planned Training Stress Score (TSS)
Using your thresholds, TrainingPeaks assigns a planned Training Stress Score (TSS) to each workout, which estimates the training load based on intensity and duration.
Completed Training Stress Score (TSS)
After completing a workout, TrainingPeaks calculates the completed TSS based on synced data, prioritizing the following:
- Swim: Swim speed/pace (sTSS). If no swim pace data is available, it uses heart rate (hrTSS).
- Bike: Power (TSS). If no power data is available, it defaults to heart rate (hrTSS).
- Run: Power (TSS). If no power data is available (rTSS), it defaults to pace. If no power or pace data is found, heart rate (hrTSS) is used.
Ensuring Accuracy
To make sure your completed TSS is accurate:
- Update your thresholds for your preferred measures.
- Ensure that TrainingPeaks assigns TSS according to the correct measure.
If your completed TSS significantly differs from the planned TSS, it may be because TrainingPeaks defaulted to a measure you haven’t updated.
For instance, if your device records power on the run, but you use pace as a measure, then you will need to toggle the TSS options in your completed workout file and select rTSS. You will then have the option to make rTSS the default setting.
